Fun with a Pergola

This past year we had a pergola built.  20150731_092347

If you are a fan of Pinterest you know that there are many ways to jazz up a pergola to make it a great place for pictures and small gatherings.

Drap a bit of fabric or tulle across the front and add a few flowers for a simple yet elegant look.

Weave fabric through the top slats – this will add your colors and also provide a little shade.Screenshot 2016-02-29 11.20.10

Drap fabric similar to the way you would drape curtains to frame the pergola.Screenshot 2016-02-29 11.19.56

Hang fabric from the top – just let it hang down.

Or, just use flowers and greenery to add some color.Screenshot 2016-02-29 11.19.44

A pergola also makes a great place to hang different items:  lanterns, flowers, streamers…..

The list of possibilities is endless.

A pergola is an easy way to add custom touches to your big event.

2 Great Years and a New Business

DSCN2231

2 years ago today we bought a business.  The first year I fumbled my way along and learned a lot.  The 2nd year has been a lot more FUN!!!

DSCN3056

Over the past year we have had lots of great experiences.  One of my favorite events is the Concealed Reveal – an art auction that supports the battered women’s shelter.

Another favorite from this past year was getting to film a spot for the news as part of the CASA event.

We got to demonstrate a recipe that we submitted.  Of course, we went with a cocktail!!!

I loved the way that Jenny Torrence (Serendipity and Pinkadilly’s) and Chris Page (Chinell’s) decorated our venue for the CASA event!!!DSCN2312

One of the things that I realized as I met with brides and other people planning events is that everyone needs decorations (linens, centerpieces, fun party pieces) and after an event people don’t know what to do with these things.

Well, last spring I started doing some research and decided that there is definitely a need for a specialty consignment store.  That was the beginning of our new business –

The idea behind it is to provide everything you might need for a wedding or other event in one location.

We have dresses, shoes, jewelry, purses, gifts, linens, vases, glassware, dishes and so much more.

Please help us spread the word about our new business – YourSpecialDay.

Here’s to year 3 at the Governor’s Row House and year 1 with Your Special Day!!!

Celebrating in Style

Sometimes weddings take place in other cities/states/countries but the PARTY happens here!!!  And, that is always FUN!!

A couple weeks ago we hosted a fun party for a young couple who married in another state but wanted to celebrate Kansas (or maybe Mardi Gras) style!!

We Have Owned the GRH for 1 Year!!!

It has been one year since we bought the venue and we have learned a lot during that time!!!

We have made a few changes but nothing major.Bench

We have hosted many incredible events this past year from weddings to business meetings.  Hopefully during this next year we will add in some other fun activities!

GRH Christmas Get-Together

The holidays are a time full of cheer and festive events.

It can also be a very lonely time for many people for a huge variety of reasons.

We would like to invite anyone (young, old, alone or part of a large group) to come  hang out among friends on Christmas Day.

We will open the Governor’s Row House at 1:00 PM and have snacks and games to share. Everyone is welcome – bring your own drinks celebrate the day!!!

All Decked Out for the Holidays

We added a few decorations and lights to give a festive feel for December.

The front room already has a great color - just a little extra on the mantle to complete it.

Apartment for Rent

Some of you may not realize that the Governor’s Row House also has 3 apartments!!!  There are two on the 2nd floor and one that is the entire 3rd floor.

All of the apartments are very charming because they have so many of the unique features found in an old home.

One of the apartments on the 2nd floor is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath super cute space with lots of great windows.
